Nova Power 103FM

Nova Power 103FM was the result of an amalgamation between Energy 103 and Radio Nova. The coming together took place on November 25th 1987, just over two weeks after The New Radio Nova, ran by Chris Cart, had appeared on Dublin’s FM band.
Cary was said to have joined as a consultant.
This was an immediate response to the promise of new legislation which would finally offer licences for local radio. An instant shake-up of the schedules introduced more news and current affairs to Energy’s output, in line with the proposed conditions licence holders would be required to undertake.
The merger was to be short-lived, however, when the receiver for Nova Media Services refused to allow the Nova name to be used.
The station dropped Nova from the name in December and identified as Power 103FM.
