[dropcap style=”default” size=”3″ class=””]O[/dropcap]n air from 1995, Jazz FM was one of the longer serving Dublin pirates. In its early days it shared their 100.7MHz frequency and Sandyford studio space with Spectrum FM. Jazz FM aired on weekdays with Spectrum on air at weekends.

With plenty of live programming it boasted an excellent mix of music you’ll find very difficult to locate elsewhere on Irish radio, then or now.

Jazz FM earned plaudits from many quarters for its no-nonsense style and always went quietly about its business. Best known for being on 89,8MHz, the station moved on to 90.3MHz towards the end.

Closing in December 2000 in order to satisfy the terms of a licence application, failure left them bitterly disappointed and they returned to air in mid-2001 with a reduced live line-up.

The Black Tuesday raids of May 2003 forced them off the air involuntarily, and they finally returned in October 2003.

Unfortunately the station became a shadow of its former self – the failed licence applications & raids knocked the enthusiasm out of it.

In 2004, Jazz FM reverted to a fully automated service.
