Clare FM is one of the original licensed stations. It was launched by the then Irish president Dr Patrick Hillery on the 10th September 1989 having won the first-ever licence to broadcast to County Clare.
The station entertains its 25-45 year old target audience with music and speech-based programming in almost equal measures.
News and current affairs focusing on local interests are covered well and the station’s stated aims are “that [it] reflects the distinctive qualities and culture of County Clare and that we are a truly community-based broadcaster.”
Diverse musical tastes are catered for well with traditional music given peak-time airplay and other specialist programmes cover everything from classical to rock ‘n’ roll and also jazz.
